Scorpius Malfoy and Albus Potter both try and get off only for the lady to transform into a beast. They manage to fend her off but its a truly shocking moment, arguably the most-surprising part of the entire play. The prospect of the two boys comically trying to get away from her would look great on the big screen.

Released in theaters two decades ago, on Nov. 14, 2001, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone was the first of an eventual eight-film franchise based on Rowlings seven-book saga about a young wizard attending the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The film which just last year surpassed $1 billion at the global box office after a 4K rerelease in China and other markets would not only launch the careers of then-newcomers Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as Harry, Ron and Hermione but spawn franchise spinoffs Fantastic Beasts and a Broadway play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, based on an original story by Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne.
To mark the films 20th anniversary, Warner Bros. will debut two new Potter-inspired TV projects: a four-part competition series, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of House, hosted by Helen Mirren and a retrospective special to follow.
Columbus, 63, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and took a trip down Hogwarts memory lane, reflecting on his approach to adapting Rowlings source material, working with Radcliffe, Watson and Grint, why he eventually left the franchise, and why hed return to direct a Cursed Child adaptation.

During a two-week waiting period, Columbus wrote a directors version of Steve Kloves script to explain his vision for the tone of the film.

Would The Harry Potter Cast Return
While recasting the beloved original cast of the Harry Potter franchise would prove a challenging endeavor, the studio might have to for story continuity. The characters are considerably older in the play Harry, Ron and Hermione are in their late 30s, so the original three actors of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are still a bit too young-looking to convincingly be just a stone’s throw away from 40.
Another thing to consider is how Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was originally cast, which had caused inevitable controversy back in 2016: Hermione Grangers role was given to a Black actress, which Rowling defended by saying that Hermiones skin color had never been described in detail in the novels. If the studio decides to go with that new canon, they should lean into fully recasting every role.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has wowed theatre fans since 2016 but are there plans for a movie adaptation, is there a release date?
The story of Harry Potter originally came to an end in The Deathly Hallows but despite Harry seemingly living happily ever after, fans wasted no time in asking what came next for the boy who lived.
In 2016, Potter fans finally found out as the first-ever Wizarding World stage play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, made its debut in Londons Palace Theatre, wowing fans with its technical wizardry.
However, ever since its release, fans have pondered the possibility of The Cursed Child being made into a movie and subsequently if theres a release date scheduled.

Will Harry Potter And The Cursed Child Be Made Into A Film
- There are reportedly no plans to adapt Harry Potter and the Cursed Child into a movie at the time of writing.
While fans may be clamouring for Harry Potter to return to the big screen, according to the Express, there are reportedly no plans for a Cursed Child movie for the time being.
However, speaking to the publication, Harry Potter producer Lionel Wigram said: I think would make a great movie. Maybe at some point, shell be ready to do that. I think its got a wonderful, long, theatrical runit works brilliantly as a piece of theatre.
In the same article, the Express reports that Warner Bros stated that: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a stage play, with no plans for there to be a film.
This position seems to remain unchanged with Warner Bros focusing on the five-film Fantastic Beasts series, three instalments of which are yet to be released.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald
The first sequel in this series, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, came out in 2018 and featured Johnny Depp as the legendary dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. Newt and his pals from the first film are back, and Harry’s beloved Hogwarts headmaster, Albus Dumbledore , plays a major role.

Could Harry Potter & The Cursed Child Happen
While J.K. Rowling and Warner Bros. have both denied that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child would ever be adapted for the big screen in the past, Kilar’s remarks rekindled old rumors. Taking into account that the play is shown in two parts because of its length, many argue that a movie version of Harry Potter in the Cursed Child wouldn’t really work and might it be better adapted in a TV show format. It so happens that the studio has announced a call for writers for a potential spinoff show set in the world of Harry Potter.

Jason Kilar On The Next Harry Potter Film
While giving away the keynote speech at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecommunications Conference, WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar teased about the next Wizarding World movie after the Fantastic Beast series. Since the series came to an end, the Wizarding World has been seen in the Fantastic Beasts film series. While Fantastic Beasts 3’s release is set in 2022, the series has two more movies.

Kilar, as per The Hollywood Reporter, said that Harry Potter is Warner Bros.’ one of the most beloved franchises, and Warner Bros. is incredibly thankful to be able to partner with author J.K. Rowling. The CEO added that there is a lot of fun and potential there. Reportedly, this could be about an upcoming live-action TV series on HBO Max. However, according to several reports, a new tentpole could also be developing based on Harry Potter And The Cursed Child stage play.

Amos Begging Harry To Use The Time Turner
Another nostalgic scene would be seeing Amos Diggory begging Harry Potter to use the time turner to bring back his dead son, Cedric. Cedric Diggory met his end in the Goblet of Fire when, upon landing in the graveyard of Little Hangleton, he was mercilessly slaughtered by Peter Pettigrew on the orders of Lord Voldemort.
One of the Goblet of Fires most-emotional scenes was poor Amos discovering the death of his son, releasing haunting screams as the pupils of Hogwarts comprehend the news themselves. In the Cursed Child, Cedrics father begs Harry to use a Time Turner to undo the damage only for Potter to refuse. It is a moment that would certainly have us thinking back to the movie that was released in 2005.

The Revelation About Delphi
During the alternative timeline, Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy both learn about something called the Augurey, something they cannot fathom or understand at the time. But, upon discovering that Delphi Diggory has the bird tattooed on her arm, they learn that she is not in fact a Diggory but the product of an illicit relationship between both Lord Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange, conceived in Malfoy Manor during the second wizarding war.
Its a huge shock because Delphi had struck up such a close relationship with the boys and how it plays out is nothing short of sensational. She spills secrets about her past, murders a poor Hogwarts student called Craig and ties both Albus and Scorpius together, nearly killing the latter. It looks as if shes destined to get her wish of reversing Voldemorts fate before one final showdown at Godrics Hollow…
Harry Potter And The Cursed Child Release Date
As there are no plans to adapt Harry Potter and the Cursed Child into a movie, there is no release date information to speak of.
Instead, film fans will have to look forward to the next Fantastic Beasts film, the third in the series, which is currently slated for release on July 15th, 2022.
Performances of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in London are suspended until further notice owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Why Radcliffe Has Never Seen The Stage Production Of Harry Potter And The Cursed Child
Despite Columbus thinking it would be fantastic for Radcliffe to star in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, he is not in the stage production. In fact, he has never seen the play.
In a WIRED Autocomplete Interview that has more than 3 million views on YouTube, Radcliffe said the content of the play is not the reason he has not seen the show.
The Lost in London star explained:
I imagine the crowd would lean towards big Harry Potter fans in a really significant way. So, I feel like being in there just might be, like, people might be watching me watch it, and that feels weird. Ive heard it is absolutely fantastic though, and everybody who goes has a wonderful time.
Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix
Harry and friends enter their fifth year at Hogwarts in 2007’s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The mysterious order of the title is a secret group founded by Dumbledore, and the group lets Harry know that Lord Voldemort is back and up to no good. This is the film installment that features a truly hard-to-watch scene where teacher Dolores Umbridge tortures Harry, and in which Harry and friends form Dumbledore’s Army to train students to defend themselves.

Snape Helps The Pupils
Upon learning of Harrys death, Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy decide to enlist the help of Severus Snape. Only they know at this point in time that Snape is actually working for Albus Dumbledore and the former Hogwarts potion master is left shocked when they reveal they know the truth about him and where their allegiances lie.
Fortunately for them, Snape decides to place their faith in the duo and helps them set about going back in time. The scene is a great one because it shows the true side of the Hogwarts legend for the first time, with audiences never seeing him show his true colors during the original Harry Potter blockbusters. It would also right the wrongs of the scene from the Order of the Phoenix, where Snape appears unwilling to help Harry contact Sirius Black. The books tell a different story, however.
Chris Columbus Would Love To Make Harry Potter And The Cursed Child With The Movie Cast
Chris Columbus directed the inaugural two Harry Potter movies, the first of which, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” is celebrating its 20th anniversary this week. He helped establish the franchise on film when the students of Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry were all young kids. The main actors, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint are all in their 30s now, which makes them about the same age as the adult versions of their characters in the stage play, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.”
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Columbus revealed that he saw a Broadway production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” in London’s West End, and now he’s jonesing to do a movie adaptation or two should the chance ever present itself. He said:
“A version of ‘Cursed Child’ with Dan, Rupert, and Emma at the right age, it’s cinematic bliss. If you’re a film nerd or cinephile, it’s kind of like what J.J. did with ‘Star Wars.’ ‘Star Wars’ really started to be great again when J.J. made the film and we had all the original cast back. There’s no question if you’re a ‘Star Wars’ fan, you were moved just seeing them on screen, seeing Harrison Ford as Han Solo again and Chewy. It was very moving. I think that would be the same situation for ‘Harry Potter’ fans. To able to actually see these adult actors now back in these roles? Oh, yeah. It would be amazingly fun to make that film or two films.”

Harry Potter And The Cursed Child Parts One And Two
