First, well look at the number of words for each book in the series. The first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, has 76,944 words. It has fewer words than the other six books, making it the shortest book in the series. Since this was the first book, Rowling had more time to edit the book and make the writing more concise. Plus, she probably didnt want to make the first book too long, or the publisher might not have accepted it. She was a new author at that point. Publishers usually dont accept long novels from first-time authors.

In comparison, each of the other six books are longer, likely due to the initial success of the Philosophers’s Stone, which within its first two years had sold more than 300,000 copies in the U.K. alone. According to Wikipedia, the American version, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone remained on the New York Times bestseller list for 79 consecutive weeks.

Due to the sales of the first book, the publishersBloomsbury for the British version and Scholastic for the American versionwanted more books about the world of Harry Potter from Rowling. They were willing to accept longer books because they knew to follow up books would sell well. The word count figures for the other six books, in order:

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows

Harry swears to personally kill all of Voldemorts Horcruxes.

As we found in Half-Blood Prince, Horcruxes are artifacts that hold fragments of Voldemorts soul, effectively making him invincible.

That means that if Harry is to have a chance of confronting Voldemort, he must first find and destroy the Horcruxes.

The book follows the events that occurred immediately after Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and the actual conflict between the wizards Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort.

It retains the Guinness World Record for the most novels sold in the first 24 hours of publication, with 8.3 million sold in the United States and 2.65 million sold in the United Kingdom.

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban

Sirius Black, a mentally disturbed serial killer who has just fled from the wizard jail of Azkaban, is introduced in the third book of the series.

As a result, swarms of Dementors, evil, faceless creatures who suck the spirit out of their victims and act as Azkabans guards enter Hogwarts to patrol for Black, who is rumored to be after Harry next.

To complicate things worse, our usually steadfast hero has a negative reaction to the Dementors, causing him to pass out on a train and even lose a crucial Quidditch match.

However, it is not just inherently bad.

Professor Remus Lupin, the latest Protection Against the Dark Arts teacher and a school friend of Harrys late father, also appears in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Lupin and Harry soon form a father-son bond, and Lupin shows Harry how to use the Patronus Charm to shield himself from Dementors.

Aside from the pure genius of the plotting of this novel, Rowling provides some insightful commentary for the Dementors, who represent depression and compel Harry to confront his past trauma.

Jk Rowling Turned Down A Chance To Collaborate With The King Of Pop Michael Jackson:

Not many authors, celebrities, or entertainers would have said no to someone of Michael Jacksons caliber. But J.K. Rowling did so without thinking twice.

Michael Jackson had requested he turned Harry Potter into a musical. Unfortunately, J.K. Rowling turned down the idea, stating that the concept lacked credibility. And that was her reason.

She also claimed that her love for the Harry Potter books and other elements, such as the theme park was special. So she didnt feel the need to change anything.

Runtime For The Harry Potter Movies

22 Harry Potter Actors Who Have Sadly Passed Away

Reading the Harry Potter books is the way to go. Theyre phenomenal, full of magic, mystery, and tons of other good stuff. They are superior to the movies in every way.

Still, the movies are also a lot of fun.

And once you finish reading the books, you may not want your Harry Potter journey to end. In that case, its time to break out the Blu-Rays and watch the films. Because the producers split Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows into two movies, there are actually eight of them.

You may be disappointed if you decide to sit down and watch them in a back-to-back marathon, though. While technically, you could watch all eight movies in one sitting, it would be a long process, and you wouldnt get much sleep.

The combined runtime for the eight original films is 19 hours and 39 minutes. Trying to cram that into a single session would be tough.

The better option would be to pick one movie a night for a week, perhaps watching the two Deathly Hallows flicks together. That would allow you to watch the entire series in a single week.

As of April 2022, there are also three Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movies to add to the collection. Their respective runtimes are as follows:

    • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: 2 hours and 13 minutes
    • Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald: 2 hours and 14 minutes
    • Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore: 2 hours and 23 minutes

Harry Potter And The Sorcerers Stone

In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the book that started it all , Harry Potter discovers his true identity in the wee hours of his eleventh birthday: he is a wizard, famous in the magical world for having vanquished the evil Lord Voldemort when he was only a baby. This revelation, delivered by a gruff, hairy giant named Hagrid, sets Harry on a fantastical journey of a lifetime.

He meets bosom buddies Ron and Hermione aboard the Hogwarts Express, and is soon sorted with them into Gryffindor: the house of the intrepid and brave. However, Harry also makes plenty of enemies at Hogwarts, most notably the arrogant Draco Malfoy and the nasty potions master, Snape . And from battling a troll on Halloween to his first exhilarating Quidditch match not to mention the novels climax, in which Harry goes up against Voldemort for the second time in his young life theres never a dull moment in the first year of his new adventure.

Sorcerers Stone also perfectly balances exciting action with touching emotion, as Harry finds a true family in Ron and Hermione after years of misery with the Dursleys. Indeed, the books small, moving moments such as Harry being floored by a gift from Rons mother, or Hermiones tearful declaration at the end about books and cleverness are just as magical as the spells themselves.
